The Cut That Makes A Difference

Having had her hair short for a number of years, Karen decided that she’d like a change and grow her hair. At the time, she wasn’t sure how long she’d grow her hair. That was nearly three years ago.

After a year of growing her hair, she thought that it’s such a waste to have a trim, and would rather keep growing it and donate it to charity to make a wig so that her hair can bring someone else joy.

Not to leave it there, she thought it was a great way to raise money for the chop and donate to Parkinson’s Foundation. Karen’s partner has Parkinson’s Disease and she is keen for the money raised to be donated to Parkinson’s research. Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive disease of the nervous system – you may remember Michael J Fox has Parkinson’s and recently Neil Diamond has been diagnosed with the disease.

She will donate her hair to Variety – the Children’s Charity. They make wigs for children who have cancer and alopecia. “With my hair, it’s a piece of me that will bring someone else joy,” she said.

Karen, from Bennett’s Barbershop, has offered to cut Karen’s locks free of charge.
Make-up Artist, Melissa Johns will give Karen a makeover to enhance her new look.

No need to wait until the day to donate as Carlyle Restaurant & Bar has a donations box, next time you’re dining, you can throw in your lose change.  Bennett’s Barbershop is also a collection point for donations.

Carlyle Gardens Townsville is hosting a Women’s Expo on Wednesday March 7th  as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. Karen’s ponytail chop will happen then.

Come along to the Women’s Expo and support Karen in The Cut That Makes A Difference!

If you are wanting to help Karen’s donation efforts but are unable to attend the expo, please get in touch with us here at Townsville Women and we will help connect you with Karen.
