In the second week of April 2019, a convoy of classic cars will hit the Overlander’s Way for this year’s Pitstop to the Creek road trip!
Following the footsteps of our pioneers, but on four wheels rather than horseback, the road trippers will be stopping in towns along the way for a community event featuring a free BBQ and outdoor movie theatre.
They’ll be chatting with locals along the way, showing off their cars, and encouraging others to join them in Julia Creek from Friday through Sunday for the annual Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival.
The Dirt n Dust Festival is celebrating it’s 25th year in 2019, and after recent flooding devastated the wider area, I think we can all agree this year’s festival is going to be a BIG ONE as communities unite to celebrate all things outback!
The Pitstop to the Creek will include community events from 4pm til 8pm at:
- Big 4 Aussie Outback Oasis, Charters Towers – Sunday 7th April
- (TBA) Hughenden – Monday 8th April
- Jack Brown Lions Park, Richmond – Tuesday 9th April
- Mary K Memorial Park, Cloncurry – Wednesday 10th April
- Buchanan Park Forecourt, Mt Isa – Thursday 11th April
At each Pitstop from Sunday through Thursday, Convoy participants will be displaying their cars from 4pm. Locals will be able to inspect the cars and chat with each owner about their beloved vehicles. Community and Festival representatives will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival, and the Optus truck will be set up with their Moving Picture Theatre for a nightly screening of “The Greatest Showman”. A free community BBQ will be set up for dinner at each stop.
On Friday 12th April, the Pitstop to the Creek convoy arrives in Julia Creek ready to stretch their legs and enjoy all the fun of the Dirt n Dust Festival. Over the course of three days, the festival delivers a series of events such as a Triathlon, Bog Snorkeling, PBR Rodeo, Live Music Concert, Races Day, and Australia’s Best Butt competition.
